Shawn Weatherly first came to my attention in 1989,
which signalled the beginning of what promised to be a hot new TV
show from the US, namely Baywatch. Prior to that, I have to be
honest and say that I wasn't aware of Ms Weatherly, but right from
the start something struck me about her, she was fantastic, she had
an athletic build, fabulous long blonde hair and she was highly
suited to the role of a lifeguard. Contrary to what I've read on
other web sites, I do not think for a moment that this particular
Baywatch lifeguard had any surgical enhancements, unlike her later
successors.
When it came to the press over here in England, the focus seemed to
be mainly on David Hasselhoff, Billy Warlock and Baywatch's other
leading lady - Erika Eleniak. This was due to the sensation caused
by her appearance as a Playboy Playmate at the same time she appeared in
Baywatch. Again, Shawn - aka lifeguard Jill Riley, unlike the later
Baywatch women, chose not to go down the route of appearing in
Playboy. She was different, she was remarkable and I became a big
fan and wanted
to find out as much as I could about her.
My prized possession I think, would have to be a one off photograph
of Shawn as Jill Riley which I have confirmed with Baywatch producer
Michael Berk, used to hang in Greg Bonann's office. This beautiful
cast photo shows Shawn on the beach holding her rescue can and
watching the water. I believe other cast photos are in existence,
but I'm just happy to have this one.
With the help of the Internet, I soon discovered a whole lot more
about her, including her reigning period as Miss Universe, her other
numerous TV appearances in oceanQuest, The A-Team, Happy Days,
Hunter and more besides. There was a lot more to this particular
Baywatch beauty than a tight red bathing suit.
So you could say, I've been a fan ever since. I can be excused from
not knowing about her Miss Universe title, at the time I would have
been only three years old. So my official Shawn Weatherly fan-dom
began in 1989 and has continued on ever since. I'm aware now of
pretty much most of her TV and movie appearances, if not all.
Unfortunately, I've not had the privelege of meeting Shawn in
person, but I guess you could say I've met her by proxy in that I
have met three actors whom she has starred alongside - namely -
William Shatner (TJ Hooker), Dirk Benedict who tried to chat her up
in the A-Team episode 'Recipe for Heavy Bread' and of course Michael
Winslow who starred alongside Shawn in Police Academy III: Back in
Training. Maybe one day!
And where did ShawnWeatherly.com come from you may wonder? Simple, I
wanted to put together a site that is not only a place for other
fans to look through her many photos and videos and to read about
her, but also a place that is a fitting tribute for a beautiful and
very under-rated lady. There are so many other sites devoted to Pam,
Carmen, Erika and the other mainstream Baywatch stars, but this I
believe, is the first and only thorough, in depth and straight from
the heart site devoted to the one and only Miss Universe, Baywatch
beauty, actress, model and athlete - Shawn Weatherly Harris. And
Shawn, if you should read this, I hope you will enjoy the site as
